What a Growing Season

This has been a very bad year for people with gardens around here. The planting season was late which makes the crops late. I've been getting cucumbers for around 2 weeks and a few tomatoes. And now what I've been getting for tomatoes are nothing to brag about. I'm still waiting for the "big" tomatoe....the one that I can show Dad and brag about. LOL

God I Hope It Rains

We are near dust bowl conditions here and if it doesn't rain I'll lose my crops. Well it seems it goes both ways....too much rain will also cause a loss in crops. I'm hoping to get some tomatoes soon for some bacon tomato sandwiches but it looks like they may be few and far between. (Mom always liked the "heels" of the tomatoes) Well, we will see what happens to the crops but you have to expect bad crops along with the good ones. Rena says its someone called "Jebus" but its up the someone called "mother nature". Just don't try to fool her with a butter imitation. lol

Rena's Rants

Holy crap!!!! Another blog including some fictional character of Jebus (a.k.a Jesus). I mean I would MAYBE believe this stuff if it wasn't written by a ghost writer. LOL

The Power Bill

It has finally arrived....for 13 days it was $64 . Not too bad as long as I police the usage with these "Ince gene" kids. Believe me, its worse with the Ince/Washburn gene pool. I wish that was a joke. The laws of intelligence would tell "joe six pack" it was a bad idea, but....LOL . Anyway, she did pay for this power bill. Baby steps......;)

Here We Go Again

Someone said she would give me money for the power bill that will soon be due but has failed to give me even a penny. I told her that I would have it shut off because I can't afford it and I won't let it get WAY out of hand in my name....to no effect. I expect that Hunter and I will be moving in with Dad soon. Her arguement is that the first bill won't be that expensive and that if she gave me any money she wouldn't have any money left (to blow). I'm tired of letting my credit being ruined because of her. Its down to now or never. Lets see how it plays out....I think that I know.

Rena's Ramblings

I looked forward to those thoughts of years past...except when someone named god (which is dog spelled backwards), jesus (which is pronounced hey-zues in spanish), or the bible was spoken of. (I've heard that it is good fictional reading. But I prefer science fiction or something with a little more something that isn't impossible or magician-like.) It seems they are too far and few between anymore. I know the feeling of working 3rd shift and not having the time to do the things that you want to get done because all you want to do is sleep, eat, and work on that shift. Heck, now I may have to take up the rants of the past. lol

All Roses And Good Times

This song also reminds me of growing up. Its by Don Henley of the band The Eagles. Its all about the misconceptions of growing up and finally finding what the "real" world is about.

Joe Diffie's Song Home

A few things bring back memories of my past life in that song.....Dad sitting in his easy chair and Mom hanging out the clothes while I sat on the back porch swing. Like Rena said, the smell of Sunday supper was usually beef roast, potatoes, and carrots along with beef roast gravy. On occasion we would have it on a different day....like Tuesday. But we would point it out to Mom that we were having a Sunday meal on Tuesday.

I also remember hunting mushrooms with both of them on Orrival Grant's farm. (sorry for the spelling) We didn't know what we were looking for, at first. But after Mom and Dad found the first ones, we were "hot on the trail". I always looked under the "May apples". Not sure if that was the "official name" but Dad called them that. We always found a big bunch.

Then there was always the rhubarb that grew in the back yard. People would always stop by asking if they could pick some.

I remember the only time that I went hunting rabbits for the first time without Pat and Todd with Dad. I never used to want to go hunting because of all of the sticker bushes. Jewel was tracking a rabbit and Dad and I had separtated. Jewel was "Pat's" beagle but was acually Dad's. I wasn't sure where Dad was when the rabbit appeared and I could here Jewel getting closer. I kept debating whether to take the shot or not. I knew that the rabbit was going to go over the hill and would be out of my line of shot, so it was now or never. I pulled the trigger and waited to hear the worst from Dad. The next thing that I heard was Dad yelling, "Did you get it?". I knew I had missed hitting Dad and said "I'm not sure" because a tuft of fall leaves had exploded into the air after I pulled the trigger. I went up to the area as I kept hearing Jewel barking. I found a dead rabbit and told Dad "yeah". Soon Dad had arrived, cleaned the rabbit and gave Jewel her "treat". (My brother's will know what that means.)
Mom was always, on the other hand, at home waiting to cook the supper and make sure the kids had their homework done before bed. She always made sure the home was a "home" for everyone in the house. She was always there to listen to our problems. She may not have always had the answers, but offered up assurance that it will not always be this way and WILL get better when we were down. Mom's birthday is today, May 21, 1938 and I will have her in my thoughts, as well as my Dad. Mom was the love of his life. Happy Birthday Mom. And thank you God for letting my Dad "stick around" for a little longer.

The Weather

What happened to the mostly sunny skies and temps in the low 70's that were predicted today? It was cloudy most of the day with a few sprinkles. I'm getting tired of this weather. It is almost summer by the calendar, but you can't tell. It is a bad year for having a garden so far. :(

The Power Is On

I finally broke down after a long needed discussion about paying bills and had it turned on in MY name. If She misses giving a payment I will shut it off because she has been told that I can't pay it, along with ALL of my other bills, on my paycheck. I'm beginning to think she doesn't believe me because she spent all of her unemployment in a couple of days. (I still have some left out of my pay check that she's not aware of.) I told her tonight that I don't know wheat she's going to do without any income for a week. She got silent. I really don't think she will give me those checks, but time will tell. By the way....they came at 6AM on Friday to turn it on. I got woke up to the dogs barking. Tracy has a LONG record of not wanting to pay her bills. So does her Dad and Aunt. Guess they think everyone owes them. Then they wonder where they can get their next victim......it won't be me. ;)

I finally get the power turned on in MY name tomorrow....after a week. If it isn't paid for by my wife every month, it will be shut off because I can't afford it with all of the other bills that I pay, by my choice. I will just have to move out and into my Dad's house. Really sad because I'm 46 and he's 72.
